The team led by Anja Palisch at AGROLAB LUFA in Kiel (Germany) reports the successful expansion of its offering for the identification of edible fish species.
"We have developed and validated a specific real-time PCR system to reliably detect the DNA of mackerel (Scomber scombrus)."
The new method is characterized by sensitivity and speed, and can be reliably applied to processed products that (should) contain mackerel. In contrast to time-consuming classical sequencing, which often leads to uninterpretable results in mixed samples due to overlapping signals, the real-time PCR method enables precise identification even if several fish species are contained in the product.
The detection system was confirmed in its applicability and accuracy by a laboratory suitability test and could therefore be included in the flexible accreditation for food and animal feed.
YOUR PLUS: This means that our range of species-specific real-time PCR detections for fish now includes the following species:
- Rainbow trout
- Herring
- Salmon
- Mackerel
